ITINERARY
Days 1 - 4

Leave London in the morning and drive northwest to the beautiful landscapes of the Lake District.  You can stop for lunch en route, in the fascinating village of Eyam in the Peak District in Derbyshire, noted for its historic involvement in the plague years of 1665 to 1666.

Following the leadership of their vicar, William Mompesson, once they realized their village was infected with the plague, the villagers courageously decided to cut themselves off from the rest of the country to prevent the spread of the disease, losing over two thirds of their population in the space of a year.

Continuing on your way from Eyam to the lovely village of Grasmere, in the heart of the Lake District you will be welcomed to your home from home for the next few days.

That evening you can enjoy a relaxed buffet/dinner in friendly surroundings.

Over the next few days you shall see a variety of scenery that encompasses all things that make the Lakes unique.

One walk will take you around Grasmere and Rydal, where the great poet William Wordsworth and his family lived.

There will be the opportunity to visit his two homes, Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount, and their beautiful surroundings around Lakes Grasmere and Rydal Water that were inspiration for much of his poetry.

Another day, you'll discover the two valleys of Little Langdale and Great Langdale, both incredibly beautiful with their backdrops of bracken covered fells and rugged peaks as well as the pure blue waters of Blea Tarn which lies in a small mountain pass between them.

Another day's walk shall provide you with outstanding views of two of the most famous mountains in the Lakes, Great Gable and Scafell Pike, (the highest mountain in England).

You shall walk your way up from one valley along a beautiful beck to its source, Stickle Tarn situated between the two mountains.

You can enjoy a picnic lunch here, savoring the majestic mountain views before descending into the next valley, passing crystal blue pools in mountain streams along the way.

Our walk concludes at the authentic climber's pub, the Wasdale Head Inn.  Here we can quench our thirst over a well-earned drink and enjoy a sumptuous meal.

The journey back to your accommodation will take you over a spectacular mountain pass, where you can pause at the site of an impressive old Roman fort and enjoy views across the fells to the distant coast.

If you are fortunate you may witness a magical sunset, a wonderful way to end a memorable day.

Days 5-7

You shall have a day off during your trip when, if you desire, you can visit the enchanting, if not the prettiest village in the Lakes, Hawkshead.  With tiny streets and alleys and inviting courtyards full of colorful window boxes and absent of motorcars, it is the perfect place to relax and savor the atmosphere of a Lakeland village.

There are many delightful and unique shops to browse and tempting cafes and tearooms.  Also the Beatrix Potter Museum, run by the National Trust with interesting details and displays of the famous children's author's life and works is there to visit.

Nearby is a lovely scenic walk to Tarn Hows where blue-green waters are dotted with small islands and surrounded by pristine woodlands and the craggy peaks of the Langdale Fells.

You shall enjoy a wonderfully varied walk in the northern Lakes around the spectacular scenery of Lake Derwent Water, near the town of Keswick.

You'll walk up to the summit of Cat Bells, where you will be rewarded for your efforts with panoramic views across Derwent Water, unique from the other Lakes with its many islands adding to its picturesque appeal.

After enjoying lunch beside the River Derwent, you'll continue on your perambulations along the Borrowdale Valley, which has been called by many, the loveliest valley in England.

On your final day you will begin your journey back to London with a stop for lunch and a short wander around the ancient market town of Bakewell in the Peak District, famous for its delicious Bakewell Tart.

You'll have time for a short visit to the magnificent Chatsworth House nearby. Built between 1686 and 1707 for the eminent aristocratic family of William Cavendish, the 1st Duke of Devonshire, it is a splendid example of its kind, with elegant formal gardens and landscaped parkland adding to its grandeur.

You will conclude your trip at your London hotel in time for dinner.
