Frequently Asked Questions and Grading of Walks

Where do the holidays begin and end?

All clients will be greeted at and returned to on the day of departure the train station mentioned on each individual tour itinerary.

Should you decide to spend longer at either end of your holiday then please let us know if we can help. We will be happy to make arrangements for you.

How do we travel between locations?

A Mini Bus will be used for our transportation needs. Our Mini Bus stays with us for the duration of our trip giving us great flexibility, allowing us to begin and end our walks where we please, and not having to retrace our footsteps back to the car park. This Mini Bus is often available during the course of each day for those who would like to limit the amount of walking they do.

On occasions, due to the remoteness of a walking location we shall employ the use of one or two smaller vehicles. Again these shall be both comfortable and efficient.

What equipment is required?

There are certain items of equipment that will prove well worth having on your trip.  A pair of 'broken-in' walking boots, preferably with ankle support and a good tread are essential, as is a waterproof jacket with a hood.  Also, a small day pack is useful for carrying a water bottle, camera and extra sweater or fleece.  Sunscreen and a hat may also be useful.

What if I'm a single traveller?

Travelling with Great Walking Holidays is a memorable group experience whether you come with a friend, or a partner, or on your own.  The emphasis is on the experience of travelling with a group of like-minded individuals where the development of a sense of camaraderie during the trip is inevitable.  We feel confident in this, and the enjoyment to be had by all as a result.

If you are a single traveller, then a single supplement rate will apply as stated in the itineraries.

How do I decide which holiday is for me?

None of the walks we do are overly strenuous and have been specially chosen to accommodate both experienced walkers and those who enjoy a good stroll.  There are varying terrains and occasional hills, but as long as participants are reasonably physically fit and in good health they should have no difficulty managing the walks. All of our walks are graded 'Easy', 'Easy/Moderate' or 'Moderate' in ability and cover 4 to 8 miles per day.

If you are unsure or would like further details regarding the type of tour to best suit your needs/abilities then we would be more than happy to help you with your selection of holidays. Please call (from the US) on 1-800 936 4392 or 44 (0)1726 832219 to speak to someone who can assist you.

What's included in the price of the tour?

All Great Walking Holidays tours include accommodation in quality Inns/Hotels with en suite bathrooms, all land transportation during the set itinerary, and meals as quoted in each itinerary.  We also provide the expertise of a tour leader and skilled, experienced local guides, with knowledge on the flora, fauna, historical and geographical details of an area.  Entrance fees to scheduled visits or events are also included.
